"One of the hottest tables in the old town is Cantinho do Avillez (cantinhodoavillez.pt) from hotshot chef José Avillez. There’s a global and slightly molecular feel to the menu, but the simple Hazelnut dessert is the showstopper, with creamy mousse, ice cream and a sprinkling of sea salt."

"As one of Portugal’s rock star chefs, José Avillez is a household name. His first Porto venture, Cantinho do Avillez, draws tourists and locals for its creative dishes that combine techniques drawn from molecular gastronomy with the ingredients that define Portuguese cuisine. The lascas de bacalhauis a deconstructed fish-and-chips, the cod flaked and mixed with eggs cooked at low temperature and “exploding” olives that melt in the mouth. Dinner for two, 75 euros."

"In Porto will man Portwein trinken – zumindest dann und wann. Doch genau den muss man zunächst suchen auf der Getränkekarte des «Cantinho do Avillez», des angesagten Bistros im Herzen von Porto. Geöffnet ist hier täglich, auch ohne Reservierung erhält man in aller Regel einen Platz, und das Ambiente geht als erfreulich nüchtern durch. Doch auf der sogleich vorgelegten Liste der Cocktails, Biere und alkoholfreien Drinks fehlen die Weine fast völlig. Dass es überhaupt eine Weinkarte gibt, eine ausgezeichnet sortierte übrigens mit allerlei glasweise servierten Tropfen und feinsten Flaschen, erfährt man erst auf ausdrückliche Nachfrage."

"In Porto, you want to drink port wine - at least once in a while, but you have to go to the "Cantinho do Avillez", a bistro in the heart of Porto. It's open daily and you can get a place even without reservation. The atmosphere ist pleasingly down-to-earth but on the immediately presented list of cocktails, beers and non-alcoholic drinks are the wines missing. You only get to know that there is a wine menu, well-sorted with all kinds of fine bottles and nice wines served in glasses, when you ask for it."
