Mercado Municipal Beira-Rio reopens this month

Mercado Beira-Rio, Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto, Portugal

Mercado Municipal Beira-Rio reopens its doors on September 13th with a concept that joins modern cuisine with the sale of fresh produce.

After a great rehabilitation the Mercado Beira-Rio opens its doors with a concept that is already known to the Portuguese. Here old merchants of vegetables, meat and fruits will coexist with new spaces. These offer varied menus from Portuguese snacks, cheeses and sausages, wines or sweets, codfish, suckling piglet, hamburgers to sushi.

The market will have 47 commercial spaces: 36 stores and 11 traditional stands. It has 178 seats in the interior and 344 in the outdoor terrace.

This space also aims to assert itself as a good place to host cultural events. Live music, exhibitions, poetry recitals and seasonal events will be the activities on the calendar, the market will work with extended hours throughout the year.

The inauguration is scheduled for September 13th at 9:30 am, and  the Mayor of Vila Nova de Gaia, Eduardo Vitor Rodrigues will attend.

The rehabilitation of the market is the responsibility of the Fachada Oceânica, a company formed by the construction company Lucios, a specialist in urban rehabilitation, and by the Legível Puzzle, whose partners are PEV Entertainment and Jocalu Higiene Industrial.

The space was granted by the town hall of Vila Nova de Gaia for 30 years. This project will create close to 100 jobs and a turnover of about 3.5 million euros.
